Gerard currently serves as the Backend Billing Team Lead at Focal Point, bringing extensive experience and a wealth of knowledge to his role.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy, which he earned in 2002, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, completed in 2006. Gerard is a licensed Registered Nurse (RN) and a Certified Professional Coder (CPC), certified by the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC).

Gerard’s career began in 2011 when he took on the role of a clinical abstractor at Outcomes Health Information Solutions. In 2012, he transitioned to UnitedHealth Group as a Medical Coder, where he not only honed his coding expertise but also earned his CPC certification, as well as Six Sigma White Belt certification and Lean Training. By 2015, Gerard was a Senior Medical Coder at HCCA Health Connections and, in 2016, he advanced to the position of Medical Coder Team Lead at Shearwater Health Advisers Inc., specializing in Risk Adjustment Coding. In addition to his full-time roles, he also freelanced in Risk Adjustment, further expanding his skill set in the healthcare coding industry.

Gerard joined Focal Point as an independent contractor in medical billing and quickly made a significant impact. Today, as the leader of the billing team, he provides valuable support and shares best practices with his colleagues. He oversees the entire billing process, from start to finish, offering guidance and driving process improvements to ensure efficiency and accuracy. His leadership has been instrumental in enhancing the team’s performance and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
